Though ACRE (Artists’ Cooperative Residency and Exhibitions) is sited on a thousand acres in rural southwest Wisconsin, it is based in Pilsen, where its founders live and run an exhibition venue dedicated to showing the artists who spend the summer painting and performing out on the farm. Summer artist residencies are both a respite from the workaday drudge but also a chance to bond with a new community of makers and thinkers. It won’t be long before a definitive style of ACRE art becomes visible.
